We had the
most amazing day at Lowry Park Zoo with the children from Hope Children’s
Home. As you may know, Hope Children's home has been IFMA's charity for
years, and we've always gone to their place for the Christmas-Santa
lunch. We did not know until we got there that they have never been to
Lowry Park Zoo before. This day showed why we should spend the money and
take them out to something that inspires wonder in children. From the
animals to the rides, these kids truly appreciated what the zoo has to
offer. Hope Children's Home is faith based. God parted the clouds to show
His children what else He had created at Lowry Park Zoo. The spirit of
Christmas was alive and made each of us a little bit more aware of what
that means. Parrish noted that we were reminded there is a reason for the
season, and even though we’ve seen better years, we haven’t had many
better days. (Rumor has it that Theresa rode a camel, but we are waiting
on picture confirmation.)
Because of your generous support, we were able to provide 75 stockings
filled with goodies and gift certificates for each child, as well as fund
the day and lunch at the zoo. We also are donating an additional $750 in
checks, gift certificates and other items to the Home's general fund.
Debra Altenbernd surprised each of the kids with a T-shirt from the zoo to
always remember the day. Carolyn had the opportunity to get additional
hugs and kisses as she delivered the remainder of the goodies to the bus
as they left.
For those of you who could not participate, Hope Children's Home will be
the beneficiary of our March golf outing. Since times are really tough
for us all, we've decided to establish a general fund for raffle prizes.
$10, $20, or whatever you can give, will go into this fund. We've
targeted a gift of $10,000, so our goal is lofty. You can either send a
check or call Theresa with your credit card and it will be processed.
